IN THE HOT SHOP
Nancy Callan and Julia Ricketts Collaborate on New Design Series
Through Sunday, April 18
10 am to 5 pm Friday and Saturday; 12 to 5 pm Sunday
http://museumofglass.cmail3.com/t/y/l/okiiti/kdtyjdkk/r Glass artist Nancy Callan http://museumofglass.cmail3.com/t/y/l/okiiti/kdtyjdkk/y combines traditional Venetian techniques with a whimsical contemporary aesthetic. Painter Julia Ricketts http://museumofglass.cmail3.com/t/y/l/okiiti/kdtyjdkk/j regards her work as "a dialogue with color, surface and marks." The two artists are working togther in the MOG Hot Shop through Sunday exploring the common language of color in glass and painting.
http://museumofglass.cmail3.com/t/y/l/okiiti/kdtyjdkk/t In 2004, Nancy and Julia created a body of work called Echoes, a collection of black and white pieces designed with the intention of bridging their different mediums. The work they are producing during this residency continues this study but utilizes drawings they have created together using a larger color palette. In the Hot Shop, they are working with the MOG Team http://museumofglass.cmail3.com/t/y/l/okiiti/kdtyjdkk/i to interpet these designs into glass.
Stop by the Hot Shop this weekend to watch these innovative artists in action.
The Visiting Artist Program is sponsored by the Windgate Charitable Foundation, Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass, City of Tacoma Arts Commission, Courtyard by Marriott / Tacoma and City Arts Magazine.
