Some great birds seen at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison this morning.

In the Nature Center lot there were two Lapland Longspurs, one associating with the Horned Lark flock, the other on its own.  Two Snow Buntings joined the larks later in the morning; always beautiful to see!

A Lesser Yellowlegs, rare for the date, continues in the Boulder Pond together with  four Greater Yellowlegs and several Dunlin.

On the sound there were a few Eider ducks and some Bonaparte’s Gulls at Meig’s Point and Paul Desjardins just called to tell me that he had several Forster's Terns offshore in a feeding frenzy with some gulls.

To top it off, the American Bittern, which has been seen on and off over the last week or two, occasionally shows itself on the north edge of the Boulder Pond.  Always a cool bird to see!

Please note: The extremely high tide was flooding much of the Nature Center lot and roadway when I was leaving the park.
