Bimini Tops

This may seem to be an unusual question but I'm taking a survey. We're
designing the new Bimini for Cigano and are interested to know what the
average deck clearance to the top of the top is. I'm 5'10" tall and what is
comfortable to me might not be comfortable to a 6'6" guest. Any
recommendations?

How many 6'6" guests to you anticipate having aboard? My son is 6'5" and
I know he'll be aboard at least once a year, perhaps more, for a week or
two at a time. When I had the bimini remade, I had the canvas person
make it 6'4" to the underside of the canvas at the highest (the old
bimini top was about 6'7"). Obviously, that means that the SS supports
are about 6'3" above the deck.

Most of the time, on the fly bridge, people are sitting while underway,
and most guests are a few inches (or more) shorter than my son. I think
the overall appearance is better with a bimini that is lower, rather
than higher.

The first time my son was aboard after the change, he said it wasn't a
problem. He's used to ducking for hanging lamps, etc, anyway!

Bob,

You make a good point. The overhead in our main saloon is 78" above the
deck. We recently had a friend, the size of your son, aboard and he had
sufficient clearance. Why would we have a Bimini higher than our main
saloon? Thanks for the input.

Regards.

Larry
