shipstore.com problem

I placed an order to shipstore.com for a book seen recommended on another
boating website (early Feb). An order confirmation was received from the
company via their website.

The merchandise never arrived. Three inquiries to the company via their
website and email failed to elicit a response. I had the charge cancelled by
my credit card company and a credit has been properly posted to my account.

An interesting problem developed within this same period of time. I was
notified by the credit card company of two fraudulent charges to that card,
each for several hundred dollars, one internet purchase and one in Europe.
The card was cancelled and a replacement sent.

I make no allegation of a connection between the two incidents but simply
provide this information to the group.  Has anyone had any recent experience
with shipstore.com, good or bad?

I have had good and bad experiences over the years.  When they're good,
they're very, very good.  When they're bad, they are, well, frustrating.

They have good prices and a large stock.  But when something happens that's
just a little bit different, their customer service is awful.  I have found
them to be impossible to reach and they rarely return emails.  They make it
very difficult to contact them in any way.

The last bad issue I had with them got me so annoyed that I called the
marina they're associated with and eventually called the owners at home when
no one would provide any additional info.  They were rather surprised to
have me calling their home - but it also solved the issue.  Two calls to the
guy's wife during the day lit a fire under them to satisfy my order
immediately.  This was the only time I've ever done something like this -
but after waiting 2 months, I felt justified.

shipstore.com is at the bottom of my list now.  They need to prove that
things are better for me to try them again.
