Hi Guys, I am completely new to 3D modelling but have achieved what I
need, I hope. Trouble is that every time I try to save the file as a .stl
file so I can send it to the printers, it appears in my documentation as
Certificate Trust List. I know this is probably a schoolboy error but what
am I doing wrong? Please accept my apologies if I am "wasting your time"
but everybody has to start somewhere and this is my somewhere

Kind regards

Duncan

That is just how your O.S. is set to recognise the .stl extension. You can
change that if it bothers you.
Sounds like Windows to me.
I recommend you change the following Explorer option. This lets you see what
it is.
Tools/Folder-options/View-tab & Uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file
types'

Newly minted Admin - PM me if you need anything, or if I've done something stupid...

Duncan, if you have a program with which you want to open .STL files, right click on one of the .STL files and select "Open With" then pick your desired program from the list. Ensure that the "Always open with this program" or some such wording is checked in the box at the lower left. If the list that is presented to you when using the Open With option does not have the desired program, use the Browse button to find the executable file for your desired program. If you are uncertain of that location, pause here for a moment, locate the program you wish to have assigned to .STL files, right-click and select Properties. There will be an entry in the "Target" field with the information needed to enter in the Browse button field. Use Copy on this step and then use Paste to dump it into the Open With/Browse field.
A program can assign .STL files to automatically open them. Many of them do not, and if a new one is installed, it can take over the assignments, sometimes not to your liking.
I hope this is helpful.fred
