Hello everyone,
Birding was steady in the Park today. A total of about 24 species of
warbler were noted thus far. Most trails within the Park have a good number
of birds being reported with several new migrants arriving, and many more
yet to come as well.
Despite the southerly winds, there was no reverse movement of birds off the
Tip this morning. A few Sanderlings were noted at the Tip along with a
number of common gull species. Just up from the Tip, an early Yellow-billed
Cuckoo was reported. North of Sparrow Field on the Post Wood trail, a
birder noted two Summer Tanagers. The Prothonotary Warblers are putting on
a show at bridge F, as well as farther north on the Woodland Trail near
bridge B. The owlets noted yesterday on the same trail were not in the nest
today. A Clay-colored Sparrow sang briefly at the north end of the same
trail, and nearby a Yellow-throated Vireo also was singing. A female Hooded
Warbler was noted on the West Beach Trail, not far south of the Halfway
Tram stop. Golden-winged Warbler was spotted at several locations including
at the north end of Tilden Woods trail, near the intersection of Schuster
and Tilden, and also just south of Orientation Pull-out on the Centennial
Bike trail. A Cerulean Warbler was singing near the picnic shelter in the
south part of the West Beach Parking lot. Also noted at the north end, just
outside the Park, a Prairie Warbler was noted. (perhaps the one singing
near Orientation the last couple days)
