How true. There doesn't seem to be one cause or remedy that applies to
everyone. Nor are the failures attributed medicine (Bonimine, etc) always
the medicine's fault. In my experience, most people wait until they are too
far gone to easily turn back before taking the drug.
However, there is also a study that says a good deal of sea sickness can be
caused by the sensations experienced when old ear wax is constantly rubbing
up against the eardrum because of the rapid, repetitive motions of being on
the water. Which means that there is something you can do before you get on
the boat to help eliminate one possible cause.
For years we've used a Teledyne Waterpick set for low power filled with 50%
hydrogen peroxide and 50% warm water to flush out the old wax. Some people
suffer from this build up more than others and this is the technique my
family practice doctor uses in his office.
We've notice a difference in our resistance to sea sickness after we've
cleaned our ears out. That and a bit of candied ginger from a health food
store help us a good deal.
Many NASA astronauts swear by cherry lifesavers for warding off space
sickness.

Does anyone have experience with the ReliefBand? I've
seen it used twice and, it appeared to have reduced
the seasickness to the point that it was bearable. On
both occasions, it wasn't applied until the person was
experiencing seasickness.

We wore them the first two or three days out on our trip from Annapolis to
Puerto Rico via Bermuda. We also sent them to people flying out to crew
with us during various segments of different cruises. Couldn't tell if they
did or didn't but certainly fell into the "it can't hurt" category. I
certainly like the idea of the them and seasickness is nothing if it's not
also partly mental.
