Museum of Glass: What's Hot Now!
IN THE HOT SHOP
Visiting Artist Mildred Howard Returns to MOG
February 9 - 13, 2011
https://i7.createsend1.com/ei/y/BF/304/752/062823/images/red-house.jpg Mildred Howard, the artist who created Blackbird in a Red Sky (a.k.a. Fall of the Blood House), the stunning red glass installation that adorned the Museum's mid-level plaza in 2002, returns to MOG this week for her first Visiting Artist residency. She plans to continue work on a new series of glass punctuation marks that will be included in a new exhibition opening here in July.
https://i8.createsend1.com/ei/y/BF/304/752/062823/images/mildred.jpg Known for her mixed media assemblage and installation work, Howard combines recycled materials that reference African-American folk culture with architectural elements and fragments of memory and history. She reinterprets these components into a contemporary art language that creates unexpected narratives, sometimes employing repetition and accumulation of identical forms to "suggest memory and the passage of time."
Stop by the Hot Shop this week and watch Mildred create the components for her new installation, then come back this summer to see the finished work. Remember, you can always watch the action in the Hot Shop via our live streaming video http://museumofglass.createsend1.com/t/y/l/fxlht/kdtyjdkk/r during regular Museum hours. http://museumofglass.createsend1.com/t/y/l/fxlht/kdtyjdkk/y
