Weather: A cool morning, warming up to 17C. Winds were from the N for most of the day, though during the last few hours of the count, they came also from the W and the S. Clouds moved in around 2 (EST). Raptor Observations: Sharp-shinned hawks headed off the morning with 115 by the end of the second hour. Shortly afterwards, Turkey Vultures started kettling through, with Red-tailed Hawks mixed in every once in a while. Birds started flying high once the temperature started going up and they never really came back down. A nice diversity again today with 11 species. Non-raptor Observations: The morning was busy with passerines; mostly American Goldfinches, Blue Jays, European Starlings and mixed blackbird flocks. American Crows, Killdeer, Chimney Swifts, and Cedar Waxwings were also seen flying overhead. As raptor numbers diminished near the end of the day, there was a nice mix of adult and juvenile White-crowned Sparrows feeding at the base of the tower. 1 Monarch.
