Visitors:
Big thanks to Mike for assisting in observing and recording on a cold and
windy morning.
Weather:
Wind was steady and strong throughout the day, varying from 8 to 17kmph,
along with wind direction changing from NW to NNW. Temperature ranged
between 3.7°C and 5.2°C, with the sun appearing in the last hour of the
watch. Cloud coverage went from 100% to 40% near the end of the day, which
increased visibility from 10 to 22km.
Raptor Observations:
Not an eventful day at the Hawk Tower due to a cold wind and a cloudy day.
The American Goshawk (1) stole the lunchtime show, with a lone
Sharp-shinned Hawk (1) offering us an afternoon highlight. Red-tailed Hawks
(5) again led the pack, followed by Cooper's Hawks (2) and a Red-shouldered
Hawk (1) finishing off an underwhelming but diverse day.
Non-raptor Observations:
Several ducks (over 8500) were seen attempting to shelter from the wind at
the northern edge of the marsh with a few (100) appearing close enough for
pictures from the tower. Tundra Swans (13) flew over the Marsh in two small
groups. Small numbers of American Goldfinch (130) are also still passing
through. A few small birds continue foraging near the Tower, specifically
six different Sparrow species.

Predictions:
Tomorrow's forecast show's a sunny day ranging from 2°C to 9°C with a
moderate wind from the west south west at an average speed of 12.5kmph. A
higher visibility and lower humidity (79%) are also expected tomorrow.
Hoping Thursday will result in higher raptor numbers. Only 1 week left!
