Subject: Report From Onboard Jenny

Friday, March 20, 2009 7:20:10 AM
Location: Santa Barbara de Samana
The boat position was not recorded.

This weather observation was taken on Friday, March 20, 2009 7:03:08 AM
local time.
Observation location: Santa Barbara de Samana.
Observation position was not recorded.
The air temperature is 73,  and water temperature is 0 degrees fahrenheit.
The forecast is Sunny.
The current weather is dry.
The sky is overcast (more than 90% clouds).
The wind is 0 knots from the east.
The visibility is 10 nautical miles.
The wave height is 0 feet with 0 foot swells.
The barometer is 1017 millibars and falling.

The internet access point I've been using here seems to have been hijacked
by someone who has put up a userid / password page like you see at a hotel,
but just two fields on it.  It has an invalid certificate too.  So, I'm
assuming it is a thief.  I will talk to the port captain today and see what
he knows.  In any case, we've lost our internet access.

A few more sail boats came in over the past two days on their way south.
The weather window closed again so they will probably be here for a week.
One of the boats has a young couple in a small, inexpensive boat.  They are
quite the adventurers and very nice.  They bought a used outboard for their
dinghy, but it died after a couple of weeks.  Someone told them to run 100
to 1 oil mix and I suspect that is what did it in.  So, I've been helping
them get to shore and get their motor to a repair shop.
Since this area has nothing but 2 stroke outboards and motor cycles, I
suspect they will find an expert repair place.

Yesterday I dove on the bottom and cleaned the waterline and coolers.  There
was some slime on the bottom, but no barnicals.  The prop was clean too with
only a couple of baby barnicles that just brushed off.  So, the Barnical
Buster spray that I applied seems to be doing a good job.  It has warn off
the edges of the prop as I expected.  Also, the bottom paint that I applied
to the bronze shoe is all gone.  So, next time I'll spray it with the
Barnical Buster too.

Since the net is down for an unforeseable time, I'm going to try to buy a
chip for the phone with a reasonable rate to the states.  Mary, Laura and I
had been using Chat, and that was marginal.  Sideband email is just not.
Also on today's task list is replacing the running light bulb in the dinghy
and rewiring the SSB jacks properly.  Oh yes, and a load of laundry is
running.

Life is good.
