We need to replace the lighting in our head. Noting we've seen in the local
West Marine seems suitable to the Admiral.

Any suggestions?

For something different, try a Yahrzeit candle. Enclosed in a
heat-proof glass, they burn for 24 hours, give a pleasant light, can
tolerate a mild breeze, don't drip or smell and are almost
untippable. Yahrzeit candles sell in the local supermarket for under
a dollar. Made in Israel for ceremonial purposes - but work well also
for non-jewish boaters.

I installed 110v flourescent lights, about 18' long, in both heads on my
boat. Cost was minimal at the home center, ($10), and they have given good
service. They don't really replace the existing 12v lights, but dockside or
with the genset running, they are  great. As for 12v lights, buy standard
fixtures and put 12 volt (standard base) bulbs in them.  BTW, the 12v bulbs
are much cheaper at WalMart in the sporting goods/RV supplies isle than
they are in the marine stores.
