I spent 3 days trying to write a reply to this and gave up before my
blood pressure peaked to stroke..  I don't know who this Tad character
is but I suggest he go boff the neighbor's dog rather than write such BS
about things he obviously knows nothing about.  The great seamen like
Ross Anderson, a frequent poster here, and Don & Marge Macintyre who
are, I believe, 3 time participants in the  BOC, and the others voyaging
the world in  DIESEL DUCKS, are people who, to paraphrase what Lincoln
said at Gettysburg; have knowledge that made their choice "beyond (some
posters here) poor power to add or distract."
And dismissing IDLEWILD in these pages as a "stunt?"  MY GOD.  Ben
and IDLEWILD sum up the very BEST of the human spirit.  Having a dream,
believing it against all the boring and unimaginative nay sayers like
some who post here, having the balls to TRY, and then succeeding.  Ben
and IDLEWILD set records that will stand a long long time.  And they
will ALWAYS be the first..  But that isn't why they did it.  It was
Ben's dream to make that trip and he did it.  And to have him sneered in
these posts as a "stunt" by some clown who has never done anything
remotely as brave is appalling.  Anybody who can't see that really is
beyond hope.  And just as appalling, NO national magazine including
Passagemaker, ever mentioned it.  Could it be that I don't spend
thousands in ads in their rags?
What a boring boring culture we have become if people, especially on
these pages, can't understand that Ben had a dream and unlike me and
you, DID IT.    Certainly there is enough positive things about
cruising to write about rather than poking such undeserved  cheap shots
as I've seen in these pages recently,

Most Sincerely,

George Buehler

George Buehler,

If I could get by all the passion and insults I'm sure you have something
good to say.  Could you tone it down a little and share a little respect for
the others on this site ?
