Hi  Dave -

You  make a good case for Evolution, however, being somewhat of  a
traditionalist, I feel better knowing that our engine is solidly bolted  to the engine
bed. I know these mounts are designed (or supposed to be) to  survive a
roll-over, but I think those forces may be less than what  we experienced, due to my
foolishness, when we got into (and  fortunately, got out of) breakers in the
Barnegat Inlet. To be sure,  there is a bit more noise, but it doesn't bother
either Penny or  me.  I like to hear my engine run!

Regards,

John
"Seahorse"

  1. Because all the torque and thrust are handled by the sealed tube  and

bearing assemblies the engine is free to float on soft mounts which  reduced
vibration to the hull

I agree, I like simple. I can fix it anywhere, or get anybody else even
remotely familiar with it (which is anyone at any boatyard) to fix it. If  my
cutless bearing takes a crap I can pump it full of polyurethane and keep
going. As far as that goes, I can just slow that shaft down and keep going,
maybe another few hundred hours until I can get it hauled. But, this setup is
noisey, and vibrates some. However, I know what my engines sound like and when
they make a different noise (like crossing a rip) I check them. AND, my motor
mounts will survive a rollover, possitively, I might not !!!> From:
