UP for Arts Fall Arts & Concerts Series
Internationally renowned Rimsky-Korsakov String Quartet from St. Petersburg,
Russia along with an exciting array of dancers, artists and musicians will
delight audience members in the UP for Arts "Fall Arts & Concerts Series."
This semi-annual series is held in the atrium of the UP Civic/Library
Building located at 37th and Bridgeport Way West, from 7p.m. to 8:30pm on
the following Fridays:
September 26 - Dance Illuminations with Dance Theatre Northwest will
include dance, music and an accompanying lecture with choreography by
Artistic Director Melanie Kirk-Stauffer. Featured works will include
"Tribute" highlighting the work of glass artist Roisin de Buitlear and Fred
Curtis from "Caution! Fragile. Irish Glass: Tradition in Transition", an
inspirational exhibit exploring the past, present and future of Irish Glass
along with excerpts from the ballet classic "Sleeping Beauty."
Featured artists include Chhay Mam, Amelia Arial, Oceana Thunder, Lauren
Trodahl and Allison Zakharov. Dance Theatre Northwest is a University
Place based 501 c-3 community outreach Performing Arts Company. The
evening also includes Featured Artists Retha Hayward, owner of White Dove
Gallery who will exhibit her work along with other artists as well as award
winning University Place watercolor artist Jason Bordash who specializes in
fishing-related art.
October 10 - The Rimsky-Korsakov String Quartet will perform with pianist
Dr. Christopher Bolby and local favorite Svitlana Smaga. World renowned as
"the precious heirloom of the Russian culture," the RKQ share the heritage
of the grand tradition of Russian music making. They will be joined by Dr.
Bowlby, director of the Seattle International Piano competition in a
performance of the brilliant Schumann Piano Quintet opus 44 with other
performances TBA. Featured visual artist Carol Stockdale will also present
her stunning one of a kind fused glass bowls and sculptures.
November 21- Pianist Scott Cossu and flutist John Croarkin will delight
audiences with a blend of jazz, classical and Ethnic music. Pianist Scott
Cossu was one of the original artists to sign with Windam Hill along with
being labeled as a "Jazz luminary of the future" by Bill Board magazine.
Multi-talented Graphite Artist Lori Forrest will also exhibit her exquisite
illustrations.
Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 for students and free for UP for Arts
members.
