Hi Gary,
I'll bet you get a lot of good replies to this tube problem, so I'm
probably redundant but adding my 2 cents anyway.
It could be that the plastic tubing has softened or has been affected by
the oil over a period of time, causing a once-tight connection to fail.
My suggestion would be to go shopping on the Mc Master Carr website (I'm
just a happy repeat customer) and find a hard (durometer) tube
compatible with the oil. Also review the different brass tube fittings
for plastic tubing. Some have support sleeves that go into the tube ID.
If you can't change your fittings, try to support the tube ID with
some thin-wall metal tube appropriately sized (brass or stainless in the
MCC on-line catalog).
Also, check out environmental-friendly lube oils such as the ones made
by Clarion Lubricants www.clarionlubricants.com (I have no relationship
with this one either.) I suspect we recreational boaters soon will be
subject to oil regs, trading our Boeshield T-9 for salad oil spray.
Cheers,
Rich Losch
