I am seriously considering a circa 1985 Grand Banks 32 as my retirement
cruiser to do the Great Loop and other coastal cruising.
The GB32 has screwed teak decks. Is the underlying fiberglass deck structure
cored with balsa or is it solid glass?
Solid.
If cored what kind of experiences have>
owners had of the decks leaking and rotting the coring?
You almost never see a GB with leaky decks.
I assume that the tanks are black iron. What kind of experiences have
owners
had with these?
Properly maintained, they last for decades. Look them over real well and be
sure to look at the tops where the fill pipe is and use a mirror to check out
the back sides.
How easily are they replaced on the GB32?
Not easy. But it can be done.
Most GB32s came fitted with the Ford Lehman 135 HP engine. Some came with
the
turbocharged Lehman. Some came with the Cummins 220 hp engine. Any pros/cons
to any of these engines?
Most have 120 Lehmans I believe. And while they're all good engines, I'd lean
toward the 120 or 135 Lehmans.
