I don't see the dilemma. It's just an economic decision, unless the mast
has some historic or antique value beyond its utilitarian function. It's
not like it's irreplaceable once destroyed, is it?
Which is cheaper, to (a) hack off the top and sell the rest for scrap, or
(b) sell the mast whole and build or find an equivalent 7' mast.
I am tempted to just hack 7'
of the top of that perfectly good mast and feed my lust for
leaving my rag bagger past behind BUT, a part of me says
DON'T YOU DARE CUT THAT MAST YOU SCHLEMOZEL.
as a point of reference I had a 10' aluminum mast made(4" pipe) to the
spreaders, 3" above spreaders, 2" for the spreaders, with a hinge box at the
bottom, drilled and tapped for lights and interior lines in place to pull
wires for 1/2 a boat unit May 2003, Fort Myers, Fl

Hi all , I gotts me a dilemma. I have a perfectly good mast 26' long sittin
in the back yard. I want a mast about 7' high to mount on top my trawler to
handle the paravanes and hold up antennas and a radar. I am tempted to just
hack 7' of the top of that perfectly good mast and feed my lust for leaving my
rag bagger past behind BUT, a part of me says DON'T YOU DARE CUT THAT MAST YOU
SCHLEMOZEL.
So, cut the damn thing or sell it?
