I saw the post about the Kidde combo smoke and CO.... I am not sure about the life of the CO part but my home smoke detectors say to dispose and replace them at 10 years... My 110 VAC hardwired home (with 9 volt battery back up) at about 10 years started going off a year ago. When one goes off, they ALL (in my house 11 of them) go off and finding the one that is tripping the others is almost impossible. When that happened a year ago, I replaced the batteries in ALL of them and got them operational again. Three days ago, they all went off again. Kidde makes a smoke only detector with a 10 year life battery, These units are not networked so if one detects smoke, only it will go off... That is what I am going for in my house. Maybe Kidde makes a combo unit with 10 year battery... I would go with that on my boat....

Many years ago I experienced my only CO detector "true" alarm. Was on a friend's large houseboat (gas engines). He was also a pilot and was familiar with Aeromedix CO detectors use on airplanes, and their excellent reputation. Had a couple installed in his houseboat.
There was a rear window very slightly open in the rear stateroom. The typical "station wagon" effect occurred and there was some CO intrusion. Fortunately, we were far away at the steering station, so it was pretty well a non-event when the detector sounded. Many other brands might have been as effective, but soon after that I installed a couple of the Aeromedix detectors on my trawler.

I bought one several months ago to replace an older one on Sanderling -
don't remember the brand but bought it at HD. The new one has a "10 year
battery" and shows a "replace by" date which must be 10 years from near
the date of manufacture.
