At Audubon coastal center this morning we received a phone call from Miriam Hill that she has seen a snowy owl ( presumably juvenile or female) today at Silver sands beach by parking lot along beach boardwalk around 7:30am. Yesterday she saw one at Walnut beach around 8 am. She has pictures she said.
I told her to join the list serve to report sightings & read about what others have seen.
So in case anyone wants to check out this sighting , I wanted to mention.

Bev,
For future reference, it's best not to announce location of roosting owls, including Snowy, for benefit of the bird. Often people (birders, photographers, others) want to get closer, and can repeatedly flush the bird.

Right! Let's have a list where you shouldn't announce anything ...
It will read... grey bird on pole in Stratford.
Just a side note. There are people on this list that get excited about other things besides warblers. Stop ruining it for them with your idea of how the rules should be. If there are going to be these kinds of reprimands for people posting their excitement with a bird they feel is exceptional then perhaps there should be an outline by the list owner ... however, I have seen a lot of snowy owl posts from last year and beyond ... so maybe sit this one out ya think?

Apparently the same is not true about inland short-eared owls.

All, I was hesitant to give out the SE Owl location, but thought that the people on this list would be respectful and not stress the bird out by aggressively chasing it. In hindsight, and as suggested by a few folks on this list, I maybe should have instead provided my contact information and allowed folks to contact me for the location. This bird (possibly 2) has been seen numerous times now actively hunting over open corn fields at both dawn and dusk, but I will admit that I did flush it from cover on more than one occasion since I found it over thanksgiving weekend. I would love to hear from the more experienced birders on this touchy subject. I do not feel I have stressed the bird out, and the few people that have come to see it have been very respectful and not "chased" it to aggressively. However, I want to do what is best for the birds, so in the future, I will not give out directions to owl sightings, and, instead, simply report the sighting on ebird.

Is there any difference between posting on this list and entering an accurate siting in eBird? In either case the bird(s) could be found. And, sadly, there will always be some abuse, sometimes just by observers who happen upon a bird.
