Be careful using bleach in stainless steel tanks as it can damage the tanks.

Peter and Didi,
Our Atlantic 30 is 26 years old and when we bought it ten years ago, we were
concerned about the safety and quality of the water. The tank is pretty much
inaccessible. When we bought the boat, we put a heafty amount of Chlorox
bleach in it, then pumped it out and ran rinse water thru it two times. We
subsequently added a General Ecology "Nature Pure" faucet model filter.
According to their brochure, this filter is "Certified to meet EPA Standard
for Microbiological Purifiers against Bacteria, Cysts and Viruses!" They go
on to say in their brochure that their "Structured Matrix(TM) is the only
technology certified to meet USEPA Purification Standards against all three
classes of waterborne disease organisms - parasitic cysts, bacteria, and
viruses -- instantly, without pre/post treatment, without wasting water and
without electricity. Outstandingly effective, they also remove chemical and
aesthetic contaminants, providing superbly refreshing,
spring-like water for a naturally healthy lifestyle." The Nature Pure faucet
is mounted next to the sink in our galley with the filter underneath. We've
had it for several years now (changing filters annually) and are very pleased
with it.
The website is www.generalecology.com 1-800-441-8166. We have no connection
with the company.... just very satisfied customers.
