Depending on where you are cruising, in addition to "greenbacks," you may wan to consider gold coins, especially for the ditch bag. I for one like the real small ones. They have unlimited usage, are widely accepted, have a lower exchange commission (at least here) than dollars, and they have a memorizing effect that is just no possible anymore with a dollar note, no matter how big.
