That's a great list of "no mores". I wonder if there are any left in
Florida or on the East Coast????  A list of what's left might be good. I'm
thinking there might be one on the western Okeechobee, but not sure.

Cape  May, NJ.  We docked there a number of times until their public
library changed its internet policy and began charging visitors to  hook-up.
Barefoot Landing, North Myrtle Beach, SC.  We always  stopped for a night
at the free dock and spent a good amount of money in a  local restaurant and
many of the shops at Barefoot Landing.  No  more.
Cocoa Beach, FL.  We would stop at the free dock and walk into  town to a
restaurant, library, hardware store,...  No more free dock, no  more stopping.
Venice FL.  The free dock provided a welcome stop, a  good restaurant
nearby, and a healthy walk to food stores, pharmacy,...  No more free dock, so
we won't be stopping and spending money in Venice any  more.

Merchants in several towns have come to realize pay for parking is a
deterrent to people going shopping and they have petitioned  city hall to
remove parking meters near their stores in an effort at attracting more
shoppers. Evidently it proved successfull because after a trial period the
meters were removed permanently. Why is it officials in these places are
not aware of current trends. Parking meters involve pennies yet have shown
to be a deterrent. What makes these bureaucrats think several dollars for
docking will not be a deterrent.

Free docks in Florida seem to disappearing faster than manatees.  The only
remaining free dock on the western Okeechobee Waterway that I'm aware of is
in Labelle.  The town dock there is used heavily, but only "Med mooring", or
tying up the stern and anchoring out the bow, is allowed to permit getting
5-6 boats at the small dock.  It's an easy walk from that dock to the
library, groceries, restaurants, tennis courts and the honey store.  Labelle
is a nice small  friendly town where we do most of our grocery shopping.
