Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsSterling,
All the cruisers are anchored out just around the bend from a
dock that has a sign saying " Gas - Diesel - Mortgages ". They'll all
come back out after the fuel prices come down.
Enjoy,

Fred, Sterling and List,
There are lots of boaters up North on the Chesapeake Bay, etc. who
are now considering not going South for the Winter months because it
may be less expensive to pay to have their boats winterized, pulled,
blocked and shrink-wrapped than to drive it to Georgia or Florida
(South Carolina is apparently working on solving their personal
property tax problem, but nothing really positive on the GL or AGLCA
lists to date). Keep the boat up North and rent a condo for a couple
of months down South for the fuel price.
The marina owners who are gouging boaters by charging more than a
dollar a gallon over the highway price are hurting everyone - guess
they have not taken marketing or economics 101. Two yacht clubs on
the Sassafras River on the Chesapeake Bay even cancelled their weeks
cruises this Summer because of fuel price gouging!
