I used "NewGlass 2" on the flybridge of my 1978 Albin - it needed 4
coats the first time and then a one or two coat update every year. It
goes on like spreading liquid floor wax with a sponge - very easy and no
rubbing. It fills in the pores and keeps it clean and very shiny. I also
used it on several smaller boats with equally good results. The website
is www.newglass2.com

Hi,
Has anyone out there used Si-Lon AD-109 or other Adsil (www.adsil.com)
product such as MicroGuard AD-100 on their fibreglass boat? We'd be
curious as to how it was applied, how it has stood up and whether it has
discoloured. We are also interested in hearing about other, competing
clear coats.
The local Adsil rep is touting AD-100 as a fibreglass restorer and
protectant, citing that one applied one will not need to recoat or even
wax the hull for at least ten years (ho boy!). We are tempted, as the
fibreglass on AKAMA is getting old, yet we are loathe to spend the small
fortune needed for a paint job.
Thanks,

I have used New Glass for 4 years on my 19 year old trawler. The fiberglas
deteriation was so bad that the spent gel coat ran off in streaks even after
waxing. After cleaning and coating which took 3 days the boat looked shiny
but not new because all the defects showed.
the fly bridge coating lasts 5 months in the south Florida sun. The
waterline wears off in 6 months of usage but lasts indefinitely if the boat
sits. The vertical surfaces if shielded from the sun have never been
recoated. Those surfaces under cover look like new, but the gel coat looked
good there before the first coating.
The surface will not tolerated any abrasion. For example, a fender adrift
off the rub rail will take off the coating in a few minutes. Any rubbber
dinghy along side will remove the coating while the owner comes aboard.
The good news is that recoating is a simple wipe on process that takes only
a few minutes.
I first heard about New Glass at a Defever Cruisers Rendevous where the
product is used by lots of our members. This year I tried a similar
product, Polyglow. The cleaner was superior to New Glass and the applicator
was much better. It is too soon to see about the longevity.
