I heard a few days ago that Joe had passed. He was one of the founders of
MVUS and was always willing to help others get on the VHF/UHF bands. I
learned a lot from him over the years. He had been ill for several weeks and
in the ICU before transition to his home under Hospice care.
Visitation and services are this Thursday (2/12) starting at 10:00 AM.
Details in the attached obituary.

Oh, what a shame. I always enjoyed talking with him. Should the club
do something for the memorial?

We could send flowers but I would prefer a donation to some charity.

I would agree. A donation would be much longer lasting.
Was shocked to hear it.... was not aware of his condition.

I'd go for that. The obituary mentioned one that supports research on
the rare blood cancer that he had.

Guys,
Joe continued working on new projects until his passing. Richard WC8RK and I dug up a couple of C-band dishes in Dayton and dropped off a really nice 8-footer at Joe’s place. He was off to the races designing the tower section and dish mounting/counterweight system for EME. He ordered a 1296 septum from Paul W2HRO and was working the LNA and relays when he became ill.
He had also been with us doing 70 cm EME with the system he and WC8RK started a couple of years ago. He was instrumental in our full redesign and testing last year leading to the EME contests last Fall. He had some bad days where he would have to stop and lie down but his enthusiasm and knowledge were always there.
He was one of a kind and we miss him terribly.

I don't feel like I knew him long enough or well enough, but even on
first meeting, I knew he was a genuinely good and decent man, and
massively competent.

I learned a lot about antenna ranges from Joe. I designed and built the
432 yagi that is on my tower. Joe came up and we set up an antenna range
at a park in Centerville. We confirmed the yagi design specs.
