Newtown, Cavanaugh Pond - 2 Red-headed Woodpeckers
I came across them while doing the Woodbury-Roxbury CBC today. The birds were actively moving back and forth on the spit of land at the southeast corner of the pond, just north of the adjacent smaller beaver pond. Immature birds. Both had some level of black barring in the white wing patches, one more so than the other.

Two days ago these bodies of water were mostly free of ice and held Wood Ducks, Black Ducks and Mallards. Today they were ice from shore to shore and free of waterfowl, as was all the non-moving water I encountered.

Well done Jim!  Finding them was good work.  We did find the ones at Janie Pierce Pond - would have been drummed out of the club if we had not found them they are so well documented!
Thanks again - hope you enjoyed the day.Angela
