Obviously they want to cut their worries in half. It is true that
motorsailers offer SOME of the benefits of both power and sail but it is
equally true that they offer ALL of the disadvantages of power and sail. Both
hull and powerplant maintenance and sail and rigging maintenance are
required. Don't ask how I know this.

That is true, but you could just use the sails as a back up and engine as a
trawler most of the time. That usually fires up the old discussion about
single versus twin though. Then that fires up the discussion about the cost
of a mast and sail setup costs more than an engine for backup.I guess we
just cant get out of the circle of thoughts.

And some of us former sailors are just getting to d_____d decrepit to pull
the sails or run the wenches any more or just dont want to put the sails
away every time we want to stop or dock. Simplicity is bliss.

Yeah, it's hard to run those wenches from a wheelchair....<Grin>
Sorry, couldn't resist - I know it's only a typo, but a cute one.
