Bob makes a good argument for combining the fuel delivery and polishing
systems. It seems to me the Achilles heel in any system is the fact you
have to DO something with that nice clean/just polished fuel. Assuming a
budget minded PPM would carry enough fuel for a 2500 mile passage, how do
you effectively polish and store fuel? Maybe my experience is unique, but
with a boat with good fuel carrying capacity you take on fuel much less
often. I think in the 10,000 miles we have voyaged so far I've taken on
fuel 6 times. I've only changed the filters twice and they were clean as a
whistle when I did that. Seems to me the key is to start with clean fuel
and burn it up!
