Good to see Neil again who had a good look at the ducks on the marsh. Good to meet Natalia and Giselle who took a great interest in the Hawk Watch and the ecology of the marsh. Good conversation with Greg on the state of Canada's biodiversity. Weather: The mist this morning soon disappeared leaving a clear sky. However a haze remained all day limiting visibility. The wind was light from the south with a bit of east at times. The temperature soon rose to mid to high twenties throughout the day. Raptor Observations: Turkey Vultures (434) again led the way, mostly a distance to the north. Numbers of Sharp-shinned Hawks (41) and American Kestrels (6) were much reduced today. Cooper's Hawks (9) had a bit of a run compared to previous days. Non-raptor Observations: Blue Jays (7640) numbers were reduced today. We had a full house of Woodpeckers with six species (alas no Pileated). Warbler numbers are slowly reducing, with virtually no American Goldfinches (14) today compared with previous days. Cedar Waxwings (147) are still holding up. Fewer Monarch Butterflies (19) today. Duck and waterbird numbers are generally stable, but with fewer Green-winged Teal (160). The temperature is forecast to remain similar to previous days.
