I have been a fan of the Whale diaphragm pumps in the past but......
I had one die 2 years ago (bad front motor bearing) which I replaced with a
spare. A few months ago that spare died with a stripped drive gear. I now
have the last spare in place and don't think I'll be using a Whale in the
future for our shower sump pump.
The front bearing is a $3 part but the way the pump is constructed you can't
remove it without destructive techniques. Ditto the $.10 cent plastic gear.
So for want of less than $5 of parts I have two $200 bricked Whale pumps. An
email to & telecom with Whale in Vermont resulted in them basically telling
me I was SOL. Sooooo, they aren't on my good vendor/products list anymore.
As always YMMV
