What is the lists opinion of the proper length of the oars for an 8'
dinghy?
As requested, more info on the dinghy......It is a hand laid fiberglass
tri-hull 8'-1" with a 4'-3" beam.

Interestingly enough, the oar length should be a function of the dinghy
width, not the length! The formula used by what I consider the premier oar
maker in the country, Shaw and Tenney in Orono, ME (207-866-4867), is:
Oar length in inches = (Distance between oarlocks in inches/2 + 2)*25/7
If you want a really "be proud of me" set of oars, give them a ring and ask
for their catalog.

At the price of new oars these days - $100.- without oarlocks - the
proper length for me is whatever comes with the dinghy :-) :-) :-)
George of Scaramouche who has an old fibreglass dink and even older
oars to go with it. Both came with an ancient wooden boat I boat five
years ago....
