Famous last words

After cruising for several days, we decided to take a dinghy ride around
the marina last night after supper. Havent done so all year. The admiral
said, "Arent you going to take the dingy oars?" I said, "Nah, we wont
need them."

So we began our tour of Pikes Bay and Port Superior marinas for a sunset
cruise. Well, we are just about done when the Johnson 3.3 HP on the
dinghy quit. I knew immediately what was wrong out of gas.

No gas, no oars, no PFDs on board. We were in great shape. And of course,
the admiral reminded me of my words of wisdom "Nah we wont need the
oars." Well, we both took our watches off and began to paddle the dinghy
with our bare hands. Embarrassing. And people were watching, though no
one offered any help. We finally made it to a dock. I hiked a quarter
mile back to the mother ship. Got a can of gas, hiked back, filled the
tank on the motor and the motor fired on the first pull.

Moral of the story. Always take an alternate form of propulsion in the
dinghy. It was a good thing we were in a marina and not on the open lake.
