He left a lot of important answers out of his explanation, like why he chose the LO frequency and the math that produces the
IF frequency. Other than the balanced diode setup, he didn't really tell me anything useful. That's not me being a
know-it-all; I was hoping to learn some of the fundamentals. Maybe I had the wrong expectations?

This is really poorly done and a lot of it is just wrong. I would be
surprised if it actually worked.
