Scott, and others--
While you're in Key West, treat yourselves to an extraordinary
breakfast at Blue Heaven, a funky old-fashioned Key West eatery where
chickens roam the outdoor courtyard where dining takes place and the
bar is open by 10 a.m. The lobster eggs Benedict dressed with a lime
Hollandaise sauce are amazing. As journalist Charles Kuralt has
declared, chef Dan Hatch could make cardboard taste good.
To say the place has color is a gross understatement. Where one eats,
Ernest Hemingway refereed Friday night boxing matches. A bordello
once occupied the second floor. Today, the friendly waitresses have
curves in all the right places.

If you can make it only one bar, go for Sloppy Joe's and have several
Red-Headed Sluts to get into the Key West frame of mind. The best and
freshest Mojitos in town are served from the portable bar on the
promenade pier behind the Westin.
When on the pier, watch out for a crazy Frenchman, Dominique LeFort,
who performs with his flying house cats.
I picked up all this valuable intelligence while in Key West in March
after riding in from Phoenix on a Harley for a new magazine I'm
working on.
