Dear Georges & Bob,
Thanks for all you did. I joined the list while still dreaming of buying my Krogen. It led to 20 years & 25,000 miles of cruising adventure. Still enjoying my lobster boat in Maine.
All the best,
Craig

Georgs,
I joined the list back around 2005 or 06, shortly before purchasing our
trawler. The list was an invaluable source of information during the
time we owned our boat as well as a huge benefit while full time
cruising. We made many good friends over the years thanks to the list.
Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the list. It has
been helpful for so many.
Best wishes for the future.

Dear soon-about-to-be-shutdown list,
I was not on the list when Georgs started it in 1997, I think.
I have no idea when I did find this list.
But finding it was a God Send.
So this is my version of the T&T Obituary:
For a list, you are a very old man.
And as you pass into the sunset on 31 Dev 2021, since birth, you have not failed to disappoint.
You introduced us to Peggy Hall, the Queen of Heads.
What was black magic to most of us became as clear as water once she started to share her wisdom.
I think I remember a boat insurance broker named Eric who helped nearly all of us navigate the absolutely gooey underbelly of boat insurance.
I remember Arild Jenson. He answered all of our electrical questions with the patience of Job. He had a unique perception on what a fail-safe layout for a boat electrical system should be that took me a while to digest and explain.
I then hired him to design LeeZe's electrical distribution system, and while there was MANY an argument with the builder, I got 99+% of what Arild designed. And fail-safe it is. 11 years on, knock on wood, all of my electrical issues have been self-induced.
There was a few yacht brokers that also shared their wealth of knowledge and understanding of another dark corner of this world we float in. I cannot but imagine that some of them lost money because they shared their intelligence with us.
And then there were us, the users. It seems many were lurkers, but we did not care. Even if you all were just reading and absorbing, if you were floating on this world, I would guess you shared a tidbit or two with your boating friends and heights
There was an active list of posters, when of course they were not doing their thing on the water. If I started to name them , I would undoubtedly miss one or two and therefore unintentionally slight them. Not my wish, no desire.
And last, but definitely not least, were the questions asked and the heat their replies generated.
The top three were, in my mind were:
Guns on board
Which anchor is the best
Single verses twin engines.
Now I surely do not care to resurrect any of these topics during the list's final days.
But:
The heat generated by the topic of guns on board could have powered the City of New York for a year.
And the passion displayed by owners of "they have the best anchor in the world" would rival the love Romeo and Juliet.
The Single verse Twin discussion ALWAYS seem to revolve about redundancy, but in fact, it really was a peace-of-mind discussion.
Then there are some posts that should live on forever. I still have a copy of the Post of Captain Wills' Fuel Polishing System. I have shared it with others from time to time, with the warning that while it looks like a bullet-proof system, read the post and modify your fuel system to take advantage of the polishing his system performs. Why do I say almost bullet-proof? An email from a user who said it next to impossible to find the right Bounty paper towel roll, and that he had to hand wind one onto the other still rings in my ears.
Another post that I always will keep is from Ms Peggy Hall, who shared with me how her Potable Water Tank cleaning process does the job without the use of chlorine bleach.
And lastly, on a personal level, there was a person who asked me to describe EXACTLY what med-mooring a boat is and how to execute. He was thinking of buying a boat in Holland.
And so I did write back. I had by the time of the question done many, so, I took a few days and left absolutely every gory detain in.
Poor guy: He got sooooo scared he abandoned his purchase and stayed stateside.
Please, I know I am missing perhaps hundreds of other topics. Please do not slight me.
As this list close, we should all remember that there was no stupid question, that for many of us, the list enabled us to see farther and go farther with confidence,
And that when the need arose, your "unique" problem was not so unique after all, once you posed the question to the rest of us.
I will miss this list.
Thank you Georgs for your Brilliant Idea to start this list. To the Moderators that kept it going. To the users that used it, and to those who helped others along the way.
I guess it is near to the time to say : “Sailor, rest your oars. Your work Here is done."

To put a little sharper edge on what Georgs said earlier, the T&T Lists
will be shutting down tomorrow, December 27, 2021 (exact time is
unknown). You don't have to do anything - you just won't receive any
more emails from the list, and will not be able to access the archives
or your then-nonexistent subscriber accounts. Everything will be deleted
from the list server by the host.
T&T Lists have had a great run! Personally, I count many of you as
friends, and have met some of you while cruising. It was always a warm
feeling to receive a call on VHF asking if this was Sanderling from the
trawler list! The list provided me with the knowledge and confidence to
fulfill my cruising dreams.
Georgs and I have tried our best to make the T&T Lists a welcoming place
for everyone and for every idea related to boats and boating, trawlers
and trawlering, and we hope we were able to do that for the past 25 years.
Fair winds and following seas to all of you.
