Teak Deck Calking

Morning All,

Getting ready to repair some caulking on the exterior teak decks of our
boat, there are caulk areas that have split from the teak and other  areas
that have begun to deteriorate.  Our boat is a 1985 Oceania  built in Taiwan.
What type of caulk did the builders use  for these old CHB boats?  I'm not
going to redo all the seams so I want to  make sure that the new caulk
adheres to the old caulk if possible.  I think  a person would call this process a
"patch-job"!

I would also like to have any website information on folks who have put on
Durabeck or other pick-up bed liner material over their teak decks.  It may
be getting to the point where I bite the bullet and put the Durabeck type
product over some of my exterior teak areas.  If you also wouldn't mind
talking about the process email my your phone number.

Thanks in advance,

Todd  & Brenda Lanning

Todd,

Stay away from the Durabak. I, and others on this list, have had big
problems with it. If you want more info feel free to email me offline and I
will give you "the rest of the story". You may want to consider Ultratuff
http://www.ultratuff.net/utmindex.htmas an alternative. As soon as it
warms up enough here, I will be using Ultratuff to coat my decks... on top
of the Durabak.

I had the same issue on my GB 49. Your going to have to reef out the
area's that show cracking. Use the information on the Teak Deck Systems
web site, TDS.
