Dear Grumpy:  Florida is indeed a Banana Republic. It has always been. It
also has swarms of huge mosquitos, aligators that will gleefully gobble up
your little dogs and cats, insane drivers, high taxes and the bulk of the
population is at least 73 years old and heavily medicated.

Please pass the word to all your friends: STAY OUT OF FLORIDA.

We would also be grateful if you could convince any of your friends that
might already be here in Flrida to leave immediately.

Maybe, if all you opinionated invaders leave, Florida could return to being
the paradise it once was.  One can only dream.

I am beginning to think Florida has become a Banana Republic, what with
their haste to collect taxes. Ok a question of distance, I haven't got any
charts yet of the area. I would like to know how far The Trent Severn Canal
is from Sault St. Marie taking a pretty straight line and keeping within
Canadian Waters.
Grumpy :-)

Mike,

Boy oh boy, how things have changed.  As a native Floridian (how many of you
can say that) I remember when:

(a) The state motto was "Keep Florida Green - Spend Money"

(b)  There were two kinds of Yankees.  Just plain old Yankees and Damn Yankees

  • the difference between the two is that the Damn Yankees were the ones that
    stayed.

(c)  The young people who couldn't get jobs (because of all the early retirees
from the North were willing to work for nearly nothing) and who were forced to
move out of the state coined the phrase:  "Florida is for the Newly Weds and
the Nearly Deads -- and since we are in-between we are outahere" (Has this
changed???).
