VSU Professor To Travel To Ghana To Teach After Being Selected As A Fulbright Scholar

Virginia State University is pleased to announce that VSU professor Dr. Karl Jackson has been named a Fulbright Scholar. Dr. Jackson received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award from the U. S. Department of State to travel to Ghana for the 2023-2024 academic year.
Dr. Jackson, an associate professor of Chemistry and VSU alumnus, will teach a new course on metal-organic frameworks and engage in research with collaborators at the University of Ghana on the synthesis and characterization of metal-organic frameworks for applications of water purification.  
Dr. Jackson is among a select few U.S. citizens who will teach or conduct research abroad for the 2023-2024 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program. The Fulbright Program allows talented and accomplished leaders to study, teach, and conduct research abroad and contribute to finding solutions to critical international problems. 
"We are exceedingly proud of Dr. Karl Jackson for being chosen as a Fulbright Finalist,” said Dr. Donald Palm, VSU Executive Vice President and Provost. “Fulbright alumni are among the best and brightest in their perspective fields. We are honored to have one of our Greater professors chosen and representing Virginia State University based on his exceptional academic merit and leadership ability.” 
As Fulbright Scholar alums, their careers are enriched by joining a network of thousands of esteemed scholars, many of whom are leaders in their fields. Notable Fulbright alums include 62 Nobel Prize laureates, 89 Pulitzer Prize recipients, 78 MacArthur Fellows, and 41 who have served as a head of state or government. Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 400,000 participants from over 160 countries with the opportunity to exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to challenges facing our communities and our world.
