Too quiet of late

John,

Every site like this needs someone to play a similar role like an
exciter on a starter motor in my view. I run the N55 Heads Up Report
(Nordhavn) and we are deluged sometimes with postings from our 40 only
odd members, in fact fast closing on 2000 posts in little over a year.

I work it hard. When I go to sea for sometime, it goes quiet, when I get
back I drop in a subject that is important to me to learn from, and open
sesamie, we are off again, but it is now maturing and seems self
sustaining now.

Someone has to devote time to "excite" the list taunting/teasing it with
subjects that have real take home value for members. A good controversy
now and again doesn't hurt to get the juices flowing in rousing the
troops. Surely we are old and stupid enough not to be too precious with
our lot in life.

Every list has an armchair expert or two who is a forgotten hero, but
knows their onions, so these guys need to step up to the plate and help,
even if just to sate their ego. This list has two that I know of, and
when they say something, it is usually brilliant.

OK, our N55 site has had over 20 postings on Flopper Stoppers. It
appears that an odd expert (member) out there doing it big time (like
just crossed the Pacific) says he doesn't deploy his in rolly anchorages
because he doesn't need to, and I have used mine only once, and think
they are brilliant, but believe the deployment and retrieval is often a
pain in the butt. HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS EASIER, OR DO THEY NOT REALLY
WORK WELL ENOUGH FOR THE TROUBLE?

Peter Sheppard

PS Scott Bulger has been missed by this site as he understood that open,
honest, and thought provoking issues, develop a cyber dialogue to learn
from. He was the glue to make it work. If you disagreed with his views -
get a life, and understand the key role he played, and help this site
get back - but only if it is relevant to us passagemakers.

It's been about 3 weeks since the last post and I'd like to get this
list going again.  I'd like to throw out a few topics out there and see
what you all think.

  1. Where are you all now??  I think some of us who are stuck home
trying to plan our next big trip would like to hear some stories.

  2. I think us as blue water boaters or wanna be blue water boaters tend
to well equip our boats.  Has anything that you may have done exceeded
your expectations??  Has anything disappointed you??  Or is there
anything that you really wish you had added or done differently?

  3. Are any of you doing a major boat project, building a boat, planning
    a big trip?

These are just some ideas, but feel free to throw anything out there.
