Greetings Colleagues,

I trust you're well.  Join me in welcoming American Baptist College (TN) to the HBCU Library Alliance!

In late April I forwarded the attached post on American Baptist College, the newest White-House designated HBCU.  American Baptist applied for HBCU designation in the summer of 2012 and received formal notification in March of this year.

I've had several conversations with Nicole White, Director of Library Services, Susie McClure Library. Nicole is a graduate student at Trevecca Nazarene University in the Library Science program. She believes that libraries are imperative to bridging the digital and information literacy gaps that plague marginalized communities.

Nicole holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from North Carolina State University. While an undergraduate, she was one of the founding editors of the first African-American newspaper on campus, The Nubian Message. Additionally, Nicole has worked with the Stand-N-Truth organization on HIV/AIDS awareness and contributed to Hip-Hop Christian education courses and programs promoting women's health and children's literacy.

Cynthia Henderson will provide Board support to Nicole. Mary Jo and I plan to visit Nicole this summer and will coordinate travel with our neighboring Nashville colleagues.
