Well my Redpoll flock is up to 60 birds - guess most made it through the ice storm - though my neighbor had a dead one on his deck.
Also still have 3 P Siskins. They prefer to feed away from the Redpolls, and are super belligerent towards the later when around them. I also still see and hear a pair in courtship - bill feeding and much song. Will keep in touch on their actions.
But I am in question on GOLDFINCH.............
I have had daily for over 7 weeks now, Redpolls and Siskins, but have had not ONE GOLDFINCH! So who is getting all the Goldfinch here in CT?
Are they concentrated in southern CT? Anyone getting large numbers of Goldfinch here in CT?
Just wondering - Paul Carrier
On a daily basis, I have at least a dozen goldies visiting Niger feeders and
lately even venturing to the front of the yard for black oil sunflower. In
fact, the males are beginning to molt into their breeding colors.

Here in Trumbull my redpoll flock is also between 50-60 individuals. The
flock has been growing slowly all winter and is currently at its high. I
have a few goldfinches, maybe 6-8, certainly less than 10. They are
concentrated on the sunflower chips, I guess because the redpolls have
monopolized the niger feeders. A big change from last winter when the
goldfinches in the Stratford/Trumbull area numbers in the hundreds and the
redpolls were absent.

I get an average of 10-20 goldfinch a day, sometimes more (occasionally over
30), visiting my thistle feeder. They've been visiting for most of the
season. They also sometimes use the sunflower seed tray (if they aren't
pushed away).
On the other hand, I have yet to see ONE Redpoll or Siskin at my feeders, so
consider yourself lucky! Here's hoping for one final push to the south and a
good storm in March to send them my way.
