Erie Lock 17

You may have heard of the troubles at Erie Canal Lock 17 at Little falls,
that's the real big one.

Appears the main wheel that lifts the concrete gate up and down had
snapped, after running daily for 68 years.  No spares were on hand so a new
7 foot wheel must be fabricated.

But all is not lost.  Canal Corp just moved in a huge crane next to the
gate, and the lifts are now being done by that crane.

There will be delays, they are not going to lift that monster gate just
for one little boat, they will wait til there are several.  Allow an hour
and a half to transit this lock.  It will be like that for the season.

On a good day, Lock 17 looks like this:
