Hi Everyone.  I am writing you on behalf of the inner city youth in Tacoma, and especially those in Hilltop area!!  These are students that society puts into a stereotypical box, and many don't get to know.  They are not the kids that you see on the news stealing, killing, or cutting school.  No to the contrary! These kids maintain a 3.0 GPA and better!  These kids do community service on a regular basis, just to give back to their community.  They'd beautify their neighborhoods before they'd every tear them down!

These are not the athletes that bring their high schools and middle schools statewide recognition.  Yet, they are the students who are confident enough in themselves to stand on a stage and perform a play about teen domestic violence, or to delve into history and give you a performance of 50's and 60's music.  They are the youth that realize that ART is a vital means of uplifting and unifying a community.  However, they are not receiving much support from the community, outside of their immediate family and friends.

I am ASKING, IMPLORING actually, that as a community you come out to the DASH Center's final performance for the major season.  It is the recital.  It's not being held at the Broadway Center like many others; we can't afford that yet.  But these kids have worked hard all year long in MANY productions, and they NEED to see that their hard work is not in vain.  The last show had very empty audiences and it was extremely discouraging to the youth.

The recital will be held Friday, June 12, 7pm at Mt Tahoma High School.  Show admittance will be on a donation only basis.  So please take an hour and a half out of your Friday simply to show these youth your appreciation for their year long commitment to the Arts, and school, and chores at home, and their community!

The D.A.S.H. Center affords youth who would otherwise not have the opportunity, performing arts education and experiences.  As it stands, the D.A.S.H. Center is the only currently operating African American performing arts organization, though it welcomes people of all ethnicities, backgrounds, and economic levels.

Thank you for your time!!
