leaky loops

My boat was out fitted with Groco bronze loops through out. In two
instances they leak through the check valve out the top. So much so that I
replaced the ones on the wet exhausts of the auxilary Yanmar and Onan
generator with Forespar plastic loops. Now I notice the blackwater
discharge from Sealand pumps causing other Groco loops to 'spit" a bit out
the top of the loop. Very undesirable. In lieu of replacing the whole loop
I am thinking of adding the duckbill valve found on the Forespar units to
the threaded cap of the Groco. loop. Having a second check valve should
solve the problem. Easy enough to check on them from time to time to make
sure they are in working order. Anyone else have such problems? Any
reservation about the fix?

My first thought is why? If there is any age on these vented loops, the valve may need replacing, not the entire loop. Check to see if a service kit is available and replace the valve inside the loop. Unscrew the cap and the valve is sitting right there. All vented loops have a valve in them that, with time ages and needs replaced. Not only that, but all valves in all vented loops need to be serviced periodically by taking them apart and giving them a good flushing out wtih fresh water, then reinstalling them and checking to make sure that they function properly- close when fluid is being pushed through and open when the fluid flow stops. Check that out and let us know what you end up doing.
