Re: [time-nuts] Better than Quartz?

There was an interesting paper given at FCS about 10 years ago about the quartz shortage during WWII. There were govt projects to search for a replacement material. It sounded like a good effort was made, but in the end nothing else even came close to quartz.

(The one question mentioning Galileo was a side question on how their passive maser for the SV is designed) > I would be happy to host a meeting in UK for any EU Nuts and in US at PTTI > or FCS and welcome any direct approaches. That would be great!

Looking for info about first true radio controlled clock
Tue, Feb 22, 2011 5:47 PM
There's a FCS paper on it from the 80's(?). Closer to the original topic. The IRIG stuff dates to 1956 according to Wikipedia. There were similar setups running around when IRIG was being worked on. The whole reason for doing it was the proliferation of incompatible gear.

Re: [time-nuts] How quartz crystals are (were) fabricated

If you want to dig into them, digging into a good index of the FCS proceedings is a good starting point. The crystals shown in the movie were going into pressure holders. The whole stress / strain / frequency thing was well in the future in 1943.

TBolt 10 MHz output ~1.7v rms / HP 8656B FG
Mon, Jul 20, 2015 10:29 PM
Again, I can't find much in the manuals to validate the external input, other than using a FC with the same reference input. Any input or tutoring would be helpful. Are others just adding resistance in line with the TBolt output to drop voltage? I tried a 50 ohm resistor and it dropped from 1.7 to just under 1v rms on the scope. Thanks Max NG7M -- M.
