birding Costa Rica
Tue, Oct 11, 2022 8:06 PM
All wildlife encounters welcome! I understand sloths have a big presence. We are looking for suggestions and recommendations of top regions of the country and top target birds to seek. Ideally, if you've had a good experience with a tour group or birding guide in Costa Rica, that information would be helpful to us as well. Thank you in advance!

Olive sided Flycatcher & other stuff

Up to top of Canaan Mt reservoir: (1,600 feet) 50 Swallows over water - almost all Barns! Pair Bald Eagle Top of Mt was so silent today. So tranquil with no human noise. I enjoyed that very much. Butterflies were everywhere in open areas. Heading home, discovered North Goshen Rd. In wet area saw my first - Olive sided Flycatcher of year!

GH REPLY: I have a lot of stuff I don't use all the time. I am not going to use my radar on my dinghy, or my oil change pump or my generator or my big spot light or our huge refrigerator. They are all purpose built for best use on the big boat. Many people may get by fine without any of them at all.

You could try one of the binaries from the examples supplied with uhd, for example rx_samples_to_udp,or _to_file and see if it runs without a GUI on top for the desired amount of time (warning: 15 minutes of 8Msam/s will be around 29 GB, so make sure you're not filling up your SSD inadvertently).

A picture of a man and a woman always jumps out at me - sitting practically on top of each other, she eternally drinks a cup of coffee while he smokes a never-ending cigarette as they smile from ear to ear for the camera.
