Re: [time-nuts] The Smell of Tantalum in the Morning
Mon, Feb 8, 2010 8:50 PM
HP equipment from the 1980's is pretty immune to the problem because they typically use hermetically sealed mil spec tantalum capacitors.  Tektronix equipment from the 1980's is infested with tantalum problems because they used the cheap epoxy dipped parts. Tantalum failures are pretty rare in equipment that is run continuously.

If need be we can pull the mil drawings as a group and compare them. I learned this lesson by proxy in the days I worked for a cable TV manufacturer and a tech made the mistake for a second time and got his pay docked the repair cost from HP. Fortunately, the parts cost was small.

Re: HP 5065A power connector (Amphenol MS-3106A-18-22S) change?
Fri, Sep 22, 2023 12:58 PM
Matt, Unfortunately you have one connector that is to true MIL-Specification that is the Amphenol female with the blue inserts in the shell. The other is an older shell with the same pin configuration made by BENDIX the black insert. There is an obvious difference as you show.
