X310 1PPS timing depends on 1PPS/10 MHz phase - only 100ns resolution?
Sat, Jun 28, 2025 8:59 AM
The reason it’s particularly problematic is that (oddly) while this GPSDO phase locks the 1PPS to the 10 MHz, every time it locks to GPS, the 1PPS locks at a random phase (wherever is closest to 0 ns to UTC).  It doesn’t lock (for example) the rising edge of the 10 MHz to the 1PPS.

Re: Which GPSDO for an accurate, low phase noise 10 MHz?
Tue, Apr 29, 2025 4:05 PM
Hi Any source at 10 MHz will have issues if multiplied directly to 10 GHz. Your phase noise goes up be 20 log N. You are multiplying by a thousand. The net result is phase noise that is 60 db worse at 10 GHz than at 10 MHz. Even your “pretty good” 10811 will be suffering when you do that. The answer is to go up to 10 GHz in stages.
