Re: [CT Birds] Black Vultures in south cental coastal CT

I can't help but think that the crow die-off a few years ago (from West Nile) may have triggered the population "explosion" of vultures and ravens in the state. The timing seems about right. Nature does abhor a vacuum, after all!

Re: [CT Birds] Probable Historical Storm

Through the years I have had many people call me during prolonged rainy springs asking why their bluebirds left a nest full of eggs or young to die, when the bluebird pair is still seen in the area Jayne Amico/Southington - --- Scott Kruitbosch wrote: > First of all, what is the highest point of concern from this storm?

Suggestions for cats
Tue, Sep 18, 2007 10:26 PM
By the way, outside cats do NOT necessarily die young - all but 1 of mine (who disappeared) have lived to 15 or older, and a neighbor had 2 who made it to 18. If you have a cat hanging around who seems friendly you might try putting a collar on it and see what happens.

Re: [CT Birds] Question on Finch Eye Disease?
Sun, Dec 30, 2007 10:51 AM
The birds are quite sick and will eventually not be able to see to find food and water and will die. It is highly contagious to other birds. However, this disease is easily treated and since most birds can be caught every attempt should be made to do so.

Dvar for Mishpatim (Exodus 21:1-24:18)

Why does the Torah restate the same law, seemingly out of order, adding the instruction to “take him” to die for his actions? One possible explanation could be that the 3 Pessukim (verses) discuss 3 different scenarios.

Good day for Common Loons over Harrietsville
Thu, Apr 24, 2003 4:02 PM
We feared the huge die-off of loons over the last 4 years on Lake Huron and Lake Erie must have severely reduced numbers (and probably has). Today, however, there was a big flight of 111 loons from 7:28 a.m. to 9:01 a.m. with most birds passing by between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m.
